With the release of macOS Monterey, Apple decided to break from an eight-year tradition by not featuring an actual photo as its default wallpaper. BackgroundsĪpple provides wallpapers to match its latest operating system release each year, which can be set across devices running the same OS version and set in various ways – you may choose from Apple’s selection or add custom photos using Photos app dynamic wallpapers that alternate photos on various displays is another possibility. That left YouTuber Andrew Levitt, videographer Jacob Phillips, and photographer Taylor Gray filling in. Apple began this tradition eight years ago with Mavericks and continued it with Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra and Mojave by featuring real photos from California locations in their default wallpaper.Īpple made waves this year by opting for an abstract illustration instead of real photos to represent Monterey. Trying to distinguish the difference between morning and afternoon shots are not easy.MacOS Monterey wallpapers offer a stunning and peaceful way to display your device. Ultimately the roadblock I’m currently facing is just figuring out what order the Monterey wallpapers I have saved go in. Building the shortcut to do that with my beginner knowledge of shortcuts is fun. I admire that on the mac side, the wallpaper can dynamically change depending on time intervals, yet keep the system UI at whatever appearance level is set. With enough time and energy put into the project I intend to add more options. So when it runs at 12:00 it will check the device (iPad) grab the appearance of the UI (Always Dark) and then randomly grab a dark Monterey wallpaper in my shortcuts folder and makes that the wallpaper. I have it set to randomly pick from the Monterey wallpapers that “match” the system appearance between light and dark mode when the device is run. But Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will my shortcuts! Rn the shortcut runs with 50 actions that detect what device (iPad or iPhone) and is configured to take a pick from a pre selected folder for each device and randomly grabs a photo to change the wallpaper to! Works like a charm! Beyond just the standard one wallpaper that changes. Plus I wanted to integrate a system that let me pick between various options. I thought using an existing shortcut, and I did use it for inspiration, but something about building it myself seemed very rewarding.
